This is the area of the site where you can get involved in the design and production process. Here we let you know what we are commissioning and, importantly, what we are offering as payment. SuperMotif is a collaborative brand and therefore we want and need your submissions across all these areas.

Once designs are submitted they are placed in the Rate It area of the site where the community can comment on whether they like them or not. They’ll be there for at least a week. Then through a combination of popular opinion and our own instinct we will decide what we manufacture.

SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS

Parts of SuperMotif are still under construction but for now you can email us your design ideas and we will do the rest for you! Please send through high resolution .jpg or .gif images to hello@supermotif.com along with the title of the design and any additional comments you want to add. Please allow us a couple days to get your designs up on the site.

Here’s a list of current commissions.

CLOTHING

1.Illustrative t-shirt designs. This is an ongoing commission as we release one new t-shirt per week. What do you think would be the most amazing cutting edge t-shirt that represents your particular style of art or design? At SM we are as interested in why things look like they do as what they look like.

Payment - £500 advance against a royalty of 12% of gross sales.

2.Sweatshirt designs. We want to create a small range of innovative sweatshirts in both fleece and loopback cotton for Autumn. We care about those subtle differences that separate the wheat from the chaff. So think about cut and the sort of detail that would make these sweats stand out from the crowd.

Payment - £500 advance against a royalty of 5% of gross sales of that style.

3.Designs of fine detail pencil or ink drawings. We want some high quality, detailed drawings for a series of one colour prints on t-shirts and sweats. We like the subtle effect of simple screen prints made from high quality work.

Payment - £500 advance against a royalty of 12% of gross sales.

4.Designs using old-fashioned techniques. We are thinking wood block printing, etching, that kind of thing. I see so much hand illustrated design for t-shirts we thought it would be interesting to see if anyone would like to submit work from a more gentle age. Again we are thinking of the subtle pleasure of a simple colour palette. Perhaps while the technique is old the subject matter could be thrillingly modern.

5.Photography. – We are very interested in working with some photographers to create some t-shirts using either screen printing or digitally printing the image. We’d be most keen to use the photo to create a unique effect rather than simple duplicating an image in the middle of the chest, so be creative.

OTHER PRODUCTS

6.Ceramics. Later this year we will be releasing a range of high quality ceramics created using a range of screen-printing and water transfer techniques. We’re bored of spotty mugs so we are interested in either highest-quality illustrative work (this may be more traditional or fantastic even) or the edgy and fashionable. The line will be sold on-line while retail outlets are sought worldwide.

7.Motorbike helmet. We want to use decals to create a limited run of unique helmets. Let your imagination run wild.

8.Repeat pattern prints for home. We are interested in creating some fantastic, magical repeat pattern prints for feature wallpaper and cushions. Let’s take one-step away from chic and one towards 70s LP sleeves.

BRANDING

9.Logo/Art Direction. We plan to change our logo each half year. Send us your ideas of how SuperMotif should be branded, how the site should look and you can earn a small piece of every sale we make.
